Our clients reflect the Morgantown/Monongalia County community in that we are regularly providing sobering services and brief interventions for college students, sporting event attendees, partakers of downtown entertainment, and the chronically homeless and substance use disorder population. All are welcome and our staff will work to individualize the intervention.
Clients entering the HHSC will be triaged to ensure they meet requirements to utilize services provided by the Sobering Center. Clients who present a higher medical risk will be transported to the emergency room. During their stay time at Hope Hill Sobering Center, each person is given a bed where they can sleep while also being monitored by staff to ensure that they are sobering up at a safe rate.
In addition to providing a secure environment to recover from intoxication, HHSC offers screenings for binge drinking and substance use disorders, acute medical and mental health conditions, injuries, and health care services eligibility, as well as brief interventions, including motivational interviewing. Direct referrals are provided to substance use treatment centers, shelter, and other services.
HHSC provides outreach and education to the general public on harm reduction, effects of binge drinking and substance use, and access to resources and support.
